Christmas Day homicide victim identified

The victim of a fatal stabbing on Christmas Day has been identified and his next of kin have been located and notified.

At approximately 6:30 p.m., on Sunday, Dec. 25, 2016, police were called to a disturbance in the 0-100 block of Fonda Drive S.E. Upon arrival, officers discovered a man who had been seriously assaulted. The victim was transported to hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.

The victim has been identified as Mark Maurice MITCHELL, 45, of Calgary.

Morris STERN, 55, of Calgary, was charged with one count of manslaughter. He will next appear in court on Monday, Jan. 9, 2017.
