Charges pending in downtown homicide investigation

Three people have been arrested in relation to the assault of a man downtown this weekend. One person of interest remains outstanding and police are looking for public assistance to locate him.

At approximately 4:50 a.m., Sunday, Jan. 5, 2020, police were called to the area of 11 Avenue and 1 Street S.E., for reports of a man in medical distress. The man was transported to hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.

Yesterday, Monday, Jan. 6, 2020, police arrested three men believed to be responsible for the attack. Charges of second-degree murder are pending. The names of the accused will be released once charges have been formally laid by a Justice of the Peace.

A person of interest remains outstanding and police are seeking public assistance to locate Timothy JONES, 39. He is described as approximately 6’2” tall and 205 pounds. Photos of JONES are available on The City of Calgary Newsroom. Anyone who knows his whereabouts is asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers.

An autopsy of the deceased is currently ongoing. The victim’s name will be released once they have been formally identified by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
