Charges pending in connection to kidnapping incident

Nine people are facing charges following an alleged kidnapping incident.

At approximately 3 a.m., on Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2018, a man contacted the Calgary Police Service to report that a family member was being held against his will and had been assaulted. CPS officers immediately began to investigate the complaint as it was believed it to be a bonafide kidnapping situation.

Police worked with family members of the victim to negotiate his release and utilized multiple CPS resources to locate the victim and ensure his safe return.

At approximately 2:30 a.m., today, Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2018, the victim was located by police at which time multiple suspects were taken into custody from a residence in the northwest community of Brentwood. Additional suspects were taken into custody a short time later from a hotel in the northeast community of Horizon.

At this time the victim is receiving medical attention for non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigators are in the process of collecting evidence from three separate scenes and charges are pending. Police do not believe there to be any additional suspects at large.

Police would like to remind the public that situations such as this are rare, targeted events, as were the circumstances in this case.

The names of the accused will be released once the charges are sworn to by a Justice of the peace.
