Charges laid in St. Andrews Heights homicide
Following an autopsy completed by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, the suspicious death of a woman in the community of St. Andrews Heights on Friday, June 30, 2023, has been ruled a homicide.
At approximately 3:30 a.m., on Friday, June 30, 2023, we were called to the 1400 block of 29 Street N.W., for reports of a deceased woman. Upon arrival at the scene, officers located the deceased woman and took one man into custody.
An autopsy has been completed and the victim has been identified as Alice (Jingying) AI, 56, of Calgary.
Alice’s son, Alex (Axin) XU, 20, has since been charged with second-degree murder. He will next appear in court tomorrow, Tuesday, July 4, 2023.
This was an incredibly tragic incident for this family and a difficult case for all first responders involved. As police officers, our job often brings us into someone’s most difficult moments. In these instances, we lean on each other to provide support to a victim’s family and see these investigations through the court process.
Our Victim’s Assistance Support Team has been engaged to ensure that anyone impacted receives support, including throughout the court proceedings.
This was Calgary’s 10th homicide and second domestic-related homicide of 2023.
