Charges laid in southeast abduction
We have charged three men and one youth in connection to a violent abduction of a man that occurred earlier this week in the southeast community of Acadia.
On Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2023, at approximately 12:45 p.m., police were called for several reports of an assault in progress in the 9300 block of Almond Crescent S.E.
Witnesses reported a man being assaulted by four other individuals, while being dragged in an alleyway and forced into a vehicle that fled the area.
Patrol officers and HAWCS were able to quickly track the suspects, who were travelling southbound on Bow Bottom Trail in two cars approaching Canyon Meadows Drive S.E., before eventually stopping in the 200 block of Deerpoint Lane S.E., where police were able to apprehend three of the suspects. The victim, a 19-year-old man, was also located and transported to hospital for treatment of his injuries.
After search warrants were executed on both vehicles, several items were seized, including a baseball bat, an imitation firearm and zip ties. Investigators also seized approximately 17.2 grams of crack cocaine, 1.7 grams of methamphetamine, a scale, bear spray, knives and other drug paraphernalia.
It is believed this was a targeted attack and there is no threat to public safety.
As a result, Micias Luelseged CHERIE, 18, is charged with one count of kidnapping, one count of aggravated assault and possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking.
He is scheduled to appear in court on Thursday, Sept. 28, 2023.
Yusuf Mohamed ABOUD, 20, is charged with one count of kidnapping, one count of aggravated assault and one count of wearing a disguise with intent.
He will next appear in court on Thursday, Sept. 28, 2023.
A 17-year-old male has also been charged with one count of kidnapping, one count of aggravated assault and one count of possession of a firearm contrary to a prohibition order. He cannot be named under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
He will next appear in court today, Monday, Sept. 25, 2023.
Dobuol Kang GATKUOTH, 21, is charged with one count of kidnapping and one count of aggravated assault.
He will next appear in court on Friday, Sept. 29, 2023.
