Charges laid in relation to downtown attacks

We have laid charges in relation to one incident that took place as a series of random downtown attacks.

Since yesterday, investigators have been able to confirm that the incident reported by a victim in the 1000 block of 6 Avenue S.W., stating he was knocked unconscious and woke up a short time later, was unfounded. This leaves us with continuing to investigate three attacks.

Conner DERY, 25, of Calgary, has been charged with one count of aggravated assault and one count of carrying a concealed weapon. These charges are in relation to the first victim that was found at the 4 Street CTrain Station.

The two victims who were taken to hospital have since been upgraded. The victim found at the 4 Street CTrain Station is expected to be released from hospital this weekend. The second victim found at the bus shelter has been upgraded to stable condition and will remain in hospital for some time.

DERY will appear in court on Monday, Oct.18, 2021 and will remain in custody until then.

The investigation continues.
