Charges laid in online stolen property investigation

A complex investigation drawing several areas of the Calgary Police Service has resulted in one individual being charged in relation to several thefts from mailboxes and vehicles.

Following an intensive investigation, we executed a search warrant on Tuesday, February 23, 2021, on a residence located in the 100 block of Templeby Place N.E. During the search, we recovered dozens of stolen driver’s licences, stolen licence plates, more than 1,500 pieces of mail, Canada Post uniforms, and drugs.

Jasmine SCOTT, 29, was charged with the following:

  • Seven counts of mail theft
  • One count of credit card fraud over $5,000
  • One count of credit card fraud under $5,000
  • Five counts of possession of identity documents
  • Two counts of use of a revoked or cancelled credit card
  • One count of possession of crystal methamphetamine
  • Several Traffic Safety Act charges

It is believed that SCOTT stole credit cards from community mailboxes and vehicle break ins. After successfully activating the credit cards, it is alleged that she then used the cards to make purchases amounting to more than $12,000 in fraudulent charges. Some of the merchandise was then allegedly posted for sale on an online buy and sell website.

After additional investigative work, a second search warrant was executed on Tuesday, April 27, 2021, at the same residence. This search resulted in the recovery of additional fraudulent identification documents, Canada Post mailbox keys and uniforms, blank cheques, bear repellant and replica firearms, along with five fraudulent licence plates, electronics and drugs.

SCOTT was subsequently charged with the following and will next appear in court on June 7, 2021.

  • One count of mail theft
  • One count of possession of stolen mail
  • 33 counts of possession of identification documents
  • 74 counts of possession of identity documents
  • One count of impersonation
  • One count of uttering forged documents
  • One count of credit card fraud over $5,000
  • Three counts of use of a forged or falsified credit card
  • Two counts of possession of crystal methamphetamine and fentanyl
