Charges laid in northeast casino robbery

We have charged a man believed to be responsible for robbing a casino in northeast Calgary earlier this year.

On Sunday, May 25, 2025, at approximately 11 p.m., an unknown man, wearing a medical mask as a disguise, entered Pure Casino Calgary, located at 1420 Meridian Rd. N.E.

The man approached the cash counter, told the employee he was armed and demanded money. The employee complied and the man subsequently fled the casino in a stolen vehicle with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Employees immediately contacted police and our Robbery Unit began an investigation.

As the investigation progressed, our officers received an anonymous tip in relation to the incident and identified a suspect believed to be responsible for the robbery.

As a result, on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, Tomy LORANGER, 32, of Calgary, was charged with two counts of robbery, one count of wearing a disguise to commit an offence and possession of stolen property over $5,000.

He will next appear in court on Wednesday, July 30, 2025.
