Charges laid in Market Mall sexual assaults

Sexual touching without consent is sexual assault. It has a lasting impact on victims and can leave them feeling unsafe and vulnerable in public for many years after the incident.

Following an investigation, we have charged an individual with sexual assault after reports that a man had approached women and touched them without their consent at a northwest shopping mall.

On Tuesday, March 23, 2021, at approximately 6:30 p.m., a woman entered a store at Market Mall, located at 3625 Shaganappi Tr. N.W. After following her around the store, a man approached the woman and sexually touched her without her consent. The woman left the store and reported the incident to police.

Later the same day, another woman was shopping in a store when she was approached by a man. He sexually touched her without her consent and then fled the store.

Through the course of our investigation, we were able to identify the individual. He has been charged with two counts of sexual assault in relation to these incidents. At this time, we are not naming the individual due to extenuating circumstances.

Consent means agreeing to sexual activity, including kissing, touching or intercourse with another person. Sexual contact with a person is never acceptable without clear, voluntary (by words or conduct) and specific consent.
