Charges laid in fatal collision involving alcohol

The Calgary Police Service Traffic Section has charged one man in relation to a fatal collision involving alcohol.

At approximately 4:30 p.m., Sunday, March 27, 2016, a Dodge Ram with two occupants, was travelling westbound on Glenmore Trail S.W. when it attempted to overtake a Pontiac Grand Prix traveling in the right hand lane. The Dodge Ram made contact with the Grand Prix, causing extensive damage. The driver of the Grand Prix was able to pull over safely.

The Dodge Ram crossed over the median into the eastbound lane of Glenmore Trail making contact with a Jeep Grand Cherokee. The Jeep rolled over on its passenger side and then rolled back onto its wheels. The driver of the Jeep was ejected and pronounced deceased at the scene. The passenger of the Jeep was taken to hospital in life-threatening condition. 

The Dodge Ram also struck an eastbound Isuzu Rodeo. The Rodeo rotated onto the shoulder of eastbound Glenmore Trail. The two occupants of the Rodeo were taken to hospital in non-life-threatening condition and were later released.

Alexander Shaun Soop, 30, of Calgary, is charged with Dangerous Operation of a motorized vehicle causing death, dangerous operation of a motorized vehicle causing bodily harm, impaired driving causing death, impaired driving causing bodily harm, impaired driving over .08 causing bodily harm, impaired driving over .08 causing death.
