Charges laid in date robbery

A man and a woman have been charged following an investigation into a robbery that occurred during a date.

In January 2020, a man met a woman through an online dating platform. On Saturday, Feb. 1, 2020, the victim met the woman in person at his downtown apartment. Once inside the apartment, the woman let a man, who was unknown to the victim, into his apartment. The unknown man had partially concealed his face and produced what appeared to be a handgun. The pair stole a number of items from the victim before forcing him to go to an ATM and withdraw cash.

The subsequent investigation identified two suspects in March. During the course of the investigation, the male suspect was arrested in an unrelated matter and was connected to the robbery investigation through evidence obtained in a search.

Omar AHMED, 31, has been charged with robbery with a firearm and wearing a disguise with intent. He will next appear in court on Monday, April 20, 2020.

On Tuesday, April 14, 2020, the female suspect was arrested during a traffic stop.

Anthonia OLOYA, 20, has been charged with robbery with a firearm. She will next appear in court on June 29, 2020.
