Media Advisory: Charges laid in connection to sexual assault against realtor

Sergeant Stephen Mann of the Calgary Police Service will be available to speak to media at 10:30 a.m., today, Thursday, Oct. 31, 2019.

This availability will take place at the Westwinds Campus Media Centre located at 5111, 47 Street N.E.

The Calgary Police Service has charged a man in connection with the alleged sexual assault of a local realtor that occurred in the city’s southeast earlier this year.

At approximately 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 22, 2019, the victim was working at an open house in the 800 block of McKenzie Drive S.E. A man entered the house and after multiple interactions with the victim, the victim was sexually assaulted and police were called.

The police searched the area but were unable to locate the man.

Throughout a four-month-long investigation, police received numerous credible tips through Crime Stoppers and reviewed CCTV footage from the area where the assault occurred. This evidence played a key role in leading police to identify, arrest and charge the suspect.

On Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2019, Parthasarthi RAMAKRISHNAN, 39, of Calgary, was arrested and charged with one count of sexual assault. He is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2019.

Investigators believe this to be a random attack, as the victim and the suspect are not known to one another.

The Calgary Police Service would like to thank the public and the media for their assistance in moving this case forward and leading to an arrest.

The Calgary Police Service encourages anyone who feels they have been a victim of sexual assault to report it to police. Victims of sexual assault can report it to police by calling 403-266-1234, or 9-1-1 if they are in immediate danger.

There is no time limit on how long a victim has to report a sexual assault in Canada.
