Charges laid in bus driver assault

We have charged two men who are believed to be responsible for seriously assaulting a Calgary Transit bus driver yesterday.

At approximately 1:12 a.m., on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, police were called to the area of Falconridge Boulevard and Castleridge Boulevard N.E., for reports that a Calgary Transit bus driver had been attacked by two unknown men.

It is believed the two men attacked the driver when he refused their request to deviate from the designated bus route.

With the help of a passenger who tried to intervene during the incident, the driver was able to use his radio to call for help. He was later transported to hospital in critical condition and has since been upgraded to stable condition.

After reviewing CCTV footage, investigators obtained a physical description of the suspects. At approximately 8 a.m., officers observed two men matching the description of the suspects in the Falconridge area and took them into custody.

As a result, Darryl FLETT, 22, is charged with one count of aggravated assault, one count of robbery and one count of failing to comply with a court order.

Curtis BAKER SPENCE, 20, is charged with one count of aggravated assault, one count of robbery and four counts of failing to comply with a court order.

Both FLETT and BAKER SPENCE are scheduled to next appear in court on Friday, May 16, 2025.
