Charges laid in attempted arson at Calgary school

The Calgary Police Service Centralized General Investigations Unit has laid charges in relation to the attempted arsons at a southeast school.

On Thursday, March 8, 2018, detectives laid charges against one 15-year-old male in relation to four different attempted arsons at St. Isabella Elementary Junior High School, located at 855 Copperfield Blvd. S.E. The incidents occurred between Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2018, and Friday, Feb. 23, 2018. The other three youths were interviewed by detectives, however were released without charges.

The charges for the 15-year-old male include four counts of public mischief and one count of shooting an arrow in a public place.

Investigators have determined that a fifth incident which occurred at McKenzie Lake School, located at 16210 McKenzie Lake Way S.E., on Saturday, Feb. 18, 2018, was unrelated to these attempted arsons.

Police would like to once again thank the media and the public for their assistance in bringing a quick resolution to this case.
