Charges laid in 2024 southwest fatal collision
We have charged a man in relation to a fatal collision that resulted in the death of an 18-year-old in December of last year.
At approximately 9:45 p.m., on Monday, Dec. 23, 2024, police responded to a serious collision that occurred in the eastbound lanes of Glenmore Trail S.W., west of the Crowchild Trail S.W. junction.
At that time, a 2018 BMW M240i, driven by a 19-year-old man with an 18-year-old and 21-year old passengers, was travelling eastbound on Glenmore Trail S.W. The driver failed to negotiate a bend in the road, and entered the right shoulder of the roadway, striking a stationary crane operated by a man in his 30s. The driver of the BMW sustained serious injuries, the 18-year-old passenger was transported to hospital in life-threatening condition where he later succumbed to his injuries, the 21-year-old passenger had minor injuries and the crane operator was uninjured.
Following an investigation by our Traffic Unit, we have charged the driver of the BMW, Kane Anignostis BURROWS, 19, of Calgary, with impaired driving causing death, impaired driving causing injury, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing injuries and driving while prohibited.
BURROWS is scheduled to next appear in court on Friday, April 11, 2025.
