Charges laid following stolen vehicle incident
We have charged two men and a woman with 21 criminal offences and 28 outstanding warrants after a dangerous driving incident that resulted in numerous police resources being deployed throughout the city.
On Sunday, Nov. 9, 2025, at approximately 11:15 a.m., police observed a Ford Escape driving in the northeast community of Falconridge. The driver of the Escape made efforts to evade police, however officers in the area were able to confirm that the vehicle had recently been reported as stolen.
The driver fled the area at a high rate of speed, and due to the dangerous driving behaviour observed, HAWCS was utilized to de-escalate the incident while still tracking the vehicle from a safe distance. While being followed, the driver continued to drive dangerously and was observed driving through red lights, onto the shoulder or sidewalks and at excessive speeds, including almost double the posted limits in some cases.
As a result of the risk to public, officers deployed a Tire Deflation Device (TDD), and the vehicle came to a stop on Canyon Meadow Drive S.E., near Lake Fraser Drive S.E. Three occupants of the vehicle, two men and a woman, exited the vehicle and attempted to carjack an innocent bystander. All three were taken into custody at the scene by patrol and Canine Unit officers. At the time of arrest, it was discovered that one of the suspects had removed a court-ordered electronic monitoring device, and that collectively, the three individuals were wanted on 28 outstanding arrest warrants.
Steven Bradley DESJARDINS, 30, of Calgary, has been charged with nine counts of failing to comply with a release order, and one count each of flight from police, theft of a motor vehicle, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, driving while prohibited, possession of stolen property over $5,000 and possession of stolen property under $5,000. DESJARDINS was also charged with two offences under the Traffic Safety Act.
Kamal Hassan FARAH, 39, of Calgary, has been charged with one count each of flight from police, possession of stolen property over $5,000 and resisting arrest.
Savannah Hailey RITCHER, 25, of Calgary has been charged with one count each of flight from police, possession of stolen property over $5,000 and possession of a forged document.
All three accused remain in custody and will next appear in court on Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2025.
“These individuals showed no regard for public safety as they travelled throughout the city, putting themselves and surrounding motorists in dangerous situations,” says Acting Staff Sergeant Cory Warholik of CPS District 5. “Thanks to the co-ordinated efforts of our patrol officers, Canine Unit and HAWCS, we were able to bring this incident to a safe resolution and prevent further risk to Calgarians.”
