Charges laid following series of school bus thefts and cyclist assault
A man has been charged in connection with a series of school bus thefts and the assault of a cyclist earlier this month.
It is believed the man stole a school bus on Thursday, Nov. 14, 2024, from a parking lot located at 8815 48 St. S.E., and the bus was later recovered the same day.
At approximately 1 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 17, 2024, the suspect gained entry into a parking lot located at 823 Highfield Ave. S.E. and stole the same bus a second time.
After reviewing CCTV footage, the suspect was seen a few hours later at approximately 4:30 a.m. driving the bus in a reckless manner, and deliberately striking a cyclist in the area of Edmonton Trail N.E. and 36 Ave. N.E. The suspect fled the scene and the cyclist sustained serious life-altering injuries.
On Monday, Nov. 18, 2024, at approximately 3:30 a.m., police found the school bus parked and unoccupied in a parking lot located at 750 9 Ave. S.E.
As a result of these incidents, Andrew John Martyn WILSON, 20, is charged with aggravated assault, break and enter to commit motor vehicle theft, theft of a motor vehicle, failure to remain at the scene of an accident-causing bodily harm and failure to comply with court orders.
There were no passengers on the bus during any of these incidents. The cyclist continues to recover from their injuries.
