Charges laid following series of robberies

We have charged a man in relation to several commercial robberies that occurred in northwest Calgary earlier this month.

On Monday, July 15, 2024, at approximately 4:30 p.m., police were called to the Shaganappi Village Shopping Centre, located at 4625 Varsity Drive N.W., for reports of a robbery that occurred within a business.

It is believed the suspect entered the business and demanded cash, but fled prior to obtaining any money. 

Following our investigation, officers believed the same suspect was also responsible for three other robberies that occurred in the same plaza and an additional robbery that occurred at a business in the Montgomery area.

The suspect again entered each business and demanded cash, and in these instances, fled each establishment with an undisclosed amount of money.

On Tuesday, July 23, 2024, police located and arrested the suspect in southeast Calgary.

As a result, Mark Anthony KOTSOS, 57, of Calgary, has been charged with six counts of robbery.

He will next appear in court on Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2024.
