Charges laid following officer-involved shooting in Manchester

Two men have been charged in relation to an incident that led to an officer-involved shooting on Friday, June 6, 2025.

At approximately 12:20 a.m., officers conducted a traffic stop in the 600 block of 25 Avenue S.E., after a passenger in the back seat of a vehicle is believed to have pointed a handgun at officers minutes earlier. The officers were in plainclothes, but wearing police vests. Once the suspect vehicle came to a stop, one man fled and was pursued by patrol officers. A confrontation ensued, during which one member discharged their Service firearm.

Officers administered first aid until EMS arrived. The man was transported to hospital where he remains in stable condition with life-altering injuries.

The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the officer-involved shooting and no additional details can be released by the CPS.

As a result of this incident, Tomy LORANGER, 32, of Calgary, has been charged with:

- Pointing a firearm
- Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
- Unauthorized possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle
- Possession of a restricted/prohibited firearm with ammunition
- Possession of a firearm contrary to an order
- Using a firearm in the commission of an offence – assault with a weapon
- Using a firearm in the commission of an offence – assaulting a peace officer with a weapon
- Assault with a weapon
- Assaulting a peace officer with a weapon
- Careless use of a firearm
- Possession of a weapon obtained by the crime

LORANGER is scheduled to appear in court on Friday, June 13, 2025.

Cheth Mackonne MITCHELL, 36, of Chestermere, was charged with breach of a release order.

MITCHELL is scheduled to appear in court on Monday, June 16, 2025.
