Charges laid following drug and firearm seizure
We have charged a Calgary man with 10 offences and seized more than $96,000 worth of drugs following a search warrant execution in northwest Calgary.
On Monday, June 3, 2024, as part of a three-month investigation into an individual believed to be involved in drug trafficking, the District Operations Team (DOT) from District 7 executed a search warrant in the 300 block of Evansridge Park N.W.
During the execution of the warrants, police located and seized:
- $7,215 in cash
- Four firearms
- 767.5 grams of cocaine (estimated street value of $77,000)
- 426 dihydromorphinone (opioid) pills (estimated street value of $12,700)
- 150 alprazolam (tranquilizer) pills (estimated street value of $750)
- 25 mixed-amphetamine pills (estimated street value of $125)
- 269 tabs of LSD (estimated street value of $2,700)
- 35.4 grams of methamphetamine (estimated street value of $2,900)
- 10 oxycodone pills (estimated street value of $100)
- Body armour with police patches
- Raid vests
- Zip ties
- A duty belt
- Helmets
- Security badges
- CPS and RCMP-issued pants
On the same day, prior to executing the search warrant, police attempted a traffic stop involving the suspect at approximately 2 p.m. in the northwest community of Sherwood. The suspect made no attempt to stop for police and fled at a high rate of speed. He ran multiple red lights and stop signs and hit the sidewalk curb, damaging the vehicle. The suspect exited the vehicle and entered an unoccupied pickup truck that he had previously parked in the area, continuing his flight from police. While driving the second vehicle, the suspect drove through stop signs and red lights, and drove at an approximate speed of 100 km/h through a school zone. At approximately 2:45 p.m., the suspect parked the vehicle in the community of Evanston and attempted to flee on foot.
With assistance from the Helicopter Air Watch for Community Safety (HAWCS) and patrol officers, police located the suspect and took him into custody.
As a result of the investigation, Cory Matthew KAMBACH, 42, has been charged with:
- Seven counts of possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking
- One count of flight from a police officer
- One count of dangerous driving
- One count of possession of property obtained by crime (over $5,000)
KAMBACH will next appear in court on Friday, June 21, 2024.
“We would like to thank the many units within the Calgary Police Service for their assistance with this investigation,” says Acting Staff Sgt. Raymond Kelly of the Calgary Police Service. “The suspect put several people within the community at risk in an attempt to flee from police. Through collaboration with units across the Service, we were able to apprehend the suspect and prevent illicit drugs and firearms from getting onto Calgary streets.”
