Charges laid after wireless retailer defrauded more than $60,000
A former employee of a wireless retailer in southeast Calgary has been charged in connection with defrauding the business of more than $60,000 over a two-month period.
Between August and October 2025, it is believed a sales associate at the retailer created fictitious customer accounts to obtain 26 cellphones, valued at more than $60,000. The fraud was discovered during an internal audit and reported to police in early November.
As a result of the investigation, MD Fardid Hasan ARNAB, 25, has been charged with one count each of:
- Fraud over $5,000
- Uttering a forged document
- Forgery
He will next appear in court on Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2026.
“Cases like this highlight the importance of robust internal controls and oversight,” says District 8 General Investigations Unit Acting Staff Sgt. Darcy Williams. “Timely reporting and effective safeguards prevented further losses and enabled us to act quickly to bring the accused to justice.”
