Charges laid after multiple sexual assaults occurred on public transit
One man has been charged after two sexual assaults occurred while victims were on, or waiting for, a Calgary Transit bus.
On Friday, July 12, 2024, a woman attended the front counter of a district office to report a sexual assault that occurred in the northeast community of Martindale the day before. It is believed the victim was riding a Calgary Transit bus with only one other passenger, an unknown man, who approached her from behind and proceeded to grope her. The victim confronted the man, changed seats and departed the bus when it reached her stop.
On Thursday, Oct. 10, 2024, a second sexual assault occurred when a woman was waiting for her bus at the Rundle CTrain Station. It is believed an unknown man started a conversation with the woman and invited her to sit next to him while she waited. She sat down, at which point, the man began to touch her in a non-consensual manner. She told the man to stop and boarded the next available bus.
As a result of these incidents, Ghulam KARAMI, 72, is charged with two counts of sexual assault.
