Charges in smoke shop break and enters

A man has been charged following an investigation into a series of break and enter robberies at specialty cigarette and cigar stores.

Between Friday, Feb. 9, 2018, and Thursday, Feb. 15, 2018, three Cheap Smokes and Cigars stores were broken into during overnight hours and tens of thousands of dollars of product was stolen. The locations all sustained extensive damage as well.

The Calgary Police Service District Support Unit began an operation to identify suspects in the series of break and enters believed to be committed by the same person, or people. Multiple investigative techniques were used to identify potential suspects.

On Saturday, Feb. 24, 2018, the Cheap Smokes and Cigars, located at 5255 Richmond Road S.W., was broken into and the product was stolen.

The suspect(s) were subsequently located in the 18000 block of 57 Avenue N.W., Edmonton, where a search warrant was executed by the Edmonton Police Service, with support from the CPS District Support Unit. Two shotguns were seized along with alleged stolen product. Photos of the seized items are available on The City of Calgary Newsroom. Three people were taken into custody at the time of the warrant. Two were released without charges.

Nathan Michael TUCKER, 31, of Edmonton, faces 10 charges in relation to six break and enters.

Investigators are continuing to attempt to identify two men and a woman believed to be connected to the investigation. CCTV photos of these persons are available on The City of Calgary Newsroom.
