Charges in New Year's Day shooting investigation

Following a plea to the public for information in relation to a shooting on New Year’s Day, one man has been arrested and charged.

At approximately 2:50 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2019, police were called to the Vault 17 VIP lounge in the 600 block of 10 Ave S.W., in response to a number of reports of shots being fired in a parking lot. Upon police arrival, no witnesses could be located although evidence was found at the scene indicating a shooting had taken place.

The investigation has determined a weapon was fired, although there is nothing to indicate there were any victims who received injuries as a result. On Friday, Feb. 22, 2019, a warrant was executed on a residence in the 1100 block of 10 Street S.W. One man was arrested and items believed to be connected to the shooting and drug trafficking were seized.

Abdirahman Kadar IBRAHIM, 35, has been charged with assault with a weapon, discharge a firearm with intent to endanger life, pointing a firearm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, use of a firearm during commission of an offence, unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of crack cocaine for the purpose of trafficking, possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5,000, and two breaches of a recognizance.
