Charges in May 2017 fatal pedestrian collision

One man has been charged in relation to a fatal pedestrian collision in May 2017.

At approximately 7 p.m., Tuesday, May 23, 2017, a 2015 Ford F150 was traveling northeast towards the access road from 26 Avenue N.E. The vehicle was driven by a 44-year-old man and had a 33-year-old man in the passenger seat.

At the same time, a 2014 Toyota Corolla driven by a 36-year-old woman was traveling southwest from the access road.

The driver of the Ford suffered a medical event. He veered off the road to the left before returning to the southwest bound lane, still travelling northeast. The Ford went into the path of the Toyota and collided with it. The Toyota was forced backwards coming to rest on a traffic island located at the entrance to the 26 Avenue access road.

The Ford mounted the curb, striking a 48-year-old woman who was on the footpath. The pedestrian sustained fatal injuries.

The Ford continued across the road and crashed into a building before coming to rest.

The occupants of the two vehicles sustained minor injuries.

James Ian BEAGRIE, 45, of Calgary, has been charged with criminal negligence causing death.
