CCTV footage and witnesses sought in Pineridge shooting
We continue to investigate a shooting that occurred last week in the community of Pineridge and are asking anyone with CCTV footage to come forward.
At approximately 1:15 p.m., on Friday, Oct. 27, 2023, we were called to the 200 block of Pinemill Way N.E., for reports that a man had been shot.
It is believed this was a planned and targeted incident, and offenders operating a white SUV had been waiting outside a nearby residence. When the intended target exited his residence, offenders began shooting and chased the man. The man took shelter in a nearby residence, where several innocent bystanders were standing outside. One of the incident bystanders, a man in his 40s, was struck with a bullet during the incident. He was transported to hospital in stable condition.
The victim and other innocent bystanders have no connections to the individual who took shelter inside the residence.
A short time later, police located the white SUV used in the shooting parked in the 3100 block of 60 Street N.E. It is believed offenders made attempts to destroy evidence prior to abandoning the vehicle in this location, and investigators are looking for dashcam or CCTV footage from the area.
This shooting is believed to be the result of organized crime conflict in Calgary.
“We are extremely concerned at the level of violence displayed during this incident. Not only did offenders target an individual in a busy residential area, they fired shots towards a group of completely innocent bystanders,” says Supt. Cory Dayley of the Criminal Operations and Intelligence Division. “Jeopardizing the safety of Calgarians will not be tolerated and we’ve dedicated significant resources to holding these offenders accountable.”
Organized crime-related violence impacts everyone in our community, including an offender’s friends, family members and neighbours. Anyone in close proximity to these individuals could be at risk. As police, we need the community’s help to identify those involved to prevent further violence in Calgary.
