On June 17, Puerto Vallarta Fire Chief Adrian Bobadilla will visit Calgary to give thanks for much needed gear and equipment donated by the Calgary Fire Department (CFD).

These donations are facilitated by a local charity called Angels for Mexico that started in 2007 to support emergency services in Mexico. CFD has been the program’s biggest supporter to date.

In the first year, CFD sent 90 sets of duty gear plus six skids of firefighting equipment including hoses, rapelling gear and vehicle extraction equipment. CFD has continued to send surplus equipment over the years with a total value of approximately $40,000.

Before the donations started, Puerto Vallarta’s 44 firefighters (bomberos) were servicing 350,000 citizens with one firefighting coat, no gear, no helmets and one fire truck.

Chief Bobadilla has been the fire chief in Puerto Vallarta for the last three years and started firefighting when he was 13 years old. The Puerto Vallarta Fire Department currently has 140 firefighters, one main fire hall and three sub-stations that service an area of more than 389 square kilometres.
