Canada Day celebrations 

Calgarians and visitors are invited to celebrate Canada Day on July 1 for a day of lively performances and activities that highlight our country’s diversity, starting at 11 a.m. at The Confluence Historic Site & Parkland (formerly Fort Calgary), St. Patrick’s Island and Olympic Plaza/Municipal Building.  

Enjoy an Indigenous showcase and powwow, live music, cultural performances, food trucks and more. Cap off the day with a spectacular fireworks show above Stampede Park shortly after 11 p.m.

Getting around   

Calgary Transit    
On Monday, July 1, Calgary Transit will be operating buses, CTrains, and On Demand on a Sunday level of service. The call centre and customer service centres will be closed. More information about transit service on Canada Day, including the additional buses available following the fireworks, can be found on the Calgary Transit website.

The Blue Line will be closed for maintenance work between Whitehorn and Franklin stations starting on Saturday, June 29. Shuttle buses will provide service between Whitehorn and Franklin stations, and full CTrain service will be restored by 9 a.m. on Monday, July 1. Visit calgarytransit.com/CTrain-service for full details, and plan ahead before heading out by using the trip planner.

Road closures    
East Village

July 1 from 6 a.m. to 12 a.m. :

• 8th Avenue S.E. from 4th Street S.E. to 6th Street S.E.
• 6th Street S.E. from 9th Avenue S.E. to 8th Avenue S.E.
• 5th Street S.E. from 9th Avenue S.E. to 7th Avenue S.E.

Calgary Parking 
Enjoy free parking in on-street ParkPlus zones and Calgary Parking parkades (with the exception of Arts Commons) on Monday, July 1. Weekend rates apply at Arts Commons parkade and surface lots. Please note that regular rates will be in effect at partner lots, such as TELUS Spark, University District, Calgary Zoo and Heritage Park.

The Calgary Parking Contact Centre and Impound Lot will be closed on Monday, July 1. For more information, please visit Calgary Parking.

City landfill hours    
Landfill hours and locations are available on calgary.ca/landfill.

Facility hours and closures
The following facilities will be closed on Canada Day, July 1:

• All Arenas
• Indoor pools and fitness centres
• Southland and Village Square Leisure Centres
• Calgary Soccer Centre 
• North Mount Pleasant and Wildflower Arts Centres

The following facilities will be open on Canada Day, July 1:

• Glenmore Reservoir will be open for recreational use and boat rentals
• All golf courses and driving ranges will be open. 

Regular hours of operation resume on July 2, 2024 with service disruptions due to the critical water main break. Service disruptions will remain in place until further notice. Check calgary.ca/recreation to stay updated on the latest information.

Note: Canyon Meadows Aquatic & Fitness Centre and Sir Winston Churchill Aquatic & Recreation Centre will close on July 1, 2024, for two to three months to conduct electrical repairs.
