Calgary’s positive Credit Ratings Reflect Fiscal Excellence and Community Value
The City of Calgary is proud to share that its positive financial standing has once again been confirmed by three leading global rating agencies, DBRS Limited, S&P Global Ratings (S&P) and Moody’s.
The agencies have reaffirmed Calgary’s high credit ratings, highlighting the City’s continued fiscal strength and responsible financial management:
- DBRS Limited maintained Calgary’s Issuer Rating and Long-Term Debt rating at AA (high) and its Commercial Paper rating at R-1 (high), all with stable trends.
- S&P reaffirmed our AA+ stable Issuer credit rating.
- Moody’s Ratings reaffirmed our Aa1 baseline credit assessment (BCA) and Aa1 long-term issuer rating with a stable outlook.
The ratings reflect The City’s commitment to responsible financial planning and smart decision-making. They help ensure The City can continue providing the services Calgarian’s rely on, while staying ready to invest in the future of our growing city.
“Thanks to The City’s consistently positive credit ratings and favorable long-term assessments, Calgarians benefit from lower borrowing costs—saving money and enabling more investment in our community, said Les Tochor, Chief Financial Officer for The City of Calgary. “These positive ratings are a testament to the thoughtful leadership and unwavering dedication of City staff, whose efforts continue to build a brighter future for Calgary.”
The City uses these independent rating services as additional sources of performance measurement and accountability. By sharing our financial information with trusted third parties, we ensure transparency and build confidence in how we manage public funds.
The report released by Morningstar DBRS Ratings states, “The credit ratings are supported by The City’s approach to fiscal management, its currently low debt burden and robust liquidity.”
