Calgary Transit adjusts weekend two-car pilot program

Calgary Transit launched a new pilot program on March 22 which reduces train lengths to two cars on weekends and statutory holidays to respond to ridership demand. The program is designed to help reallocate train cars to where they’re needed while also reducing energy consumption, maintenance, and operational costs. These savings contribute to keeping transit fares affordable for riders. 

Responding to customer feedback along with real-time data, some adjustments are being planned for this coming weekend that will provide additional capacity for busy periods to keep customers on the move.  

“This past weekend’s two-car train pilot launch gave us great insight to adjust our pilot and better match service with demand. Three car trains will be returned for Saturday to support busier periods and events taking place this weekend. Two-car trains will remain for Sunday” noted Aaron Coon, Manager at Calgary Transit.  

Throughout the pilot period, Calgary Transit will continue to monitor ridership levels and customer feedback to adjust train car lengths as needed. We thank all transit riders for their feedback and patience as the pilot continues as we work towards providing the right level of transit service to meet the needs of our customers.
