Calgary students take action on sustainability at the 37th Mayor’s Environment Expo

Calgary students will take centre stage at the 37th annual Mayor’s Environment Expo, transforming City Hall into a hub of environmental learning, innovation and action.

Each year, the Expo brings together thousands of students, educators and community partners to explore sustainability through hands-on exhibits, interactive workshops and student-led projects. Through the EcoSchools program, students showcase practical ways to reduce environmental impact at school and at home, while connecting with professionals working in climate and environmental fields.

“The Mayor’s Environment Expo gives students the chance to explore environmental issues in practical, hands-on ways and to see how their ideas and actions can make a difference,” says Nicole Newton, Director, Environmental Risk & Resilience at The City of Calgary. “It’s inspiring to see young Calgarians sharing their creativity, leadership and commitment to building a healthier, greener future.”

For 37 years, the Mayor’s Environment Expo has provided a unique opportunity for youth to explore environmental topics ranging from conservation and biodiversity to climate action and sustainable living. The event encourages students to turn knowledge into action and build lifelong connections to environmental stewardship.

The Expo is supported by educators, community organizations and partners including EcoSchools and the Alberta Council for Environmental Education, who help bring real-world environmental learning into classrooms across Calgary.

Students from participating schools will showcase a wide range of projects, from sustainable food systems and biodiversity initiatives to hands-on environmental solutions developed through classroom learning and school-based programs.

The Mayor’s Environment Expo runs June 1–4, 2026, with in-person programming on June 2 and 3.
