Calgary Police Service officer charged in off-duty incident

A member of the Calgary Police Service has been charged in relation to an off-duty domestic incident that occurred last week.

On Monday, May 28, 2018, officers were called to a residence located in southeast Calgary following a complaint of a domestic incident, involving a CPS member. A subsequent investigation by the CPS Domestic Conflict Unit has resulted in the member being charged with one count of assault.

To protect the privacy of the victim, the name of the member will not be released. The member has been with the Service for 20 years and was previously on an unrelated leave of absence since the beginning of the year. He remains on leave.

Information about this incident and charges are being released in the interests of public transparency.

As is the case anytime charges are laid against a member of the public, the officer is afforded the right to a fair trial and is being offered the appropriate supports from the Service throughout the court process.
