Calgary Police Service member charged in off-duty incident

A member of the Calgary Police Service has been charged in connection with an off-duty incident outside of Calgary.

On Sunday, Feb. 18, 2018, the member was arrested and charged by the RCMP with one count of uttering threats following a domestic incident in a neighbouring municipality.

To protect the privacy of the victim, the name of the member will not be released. He has been with the Service for 11 years.

The member was on leave for an unrelated reason at the time of the incident and his employment status has not changed.

Since this incident is being investigated by the RCMP, no further information can be released by the Calgary Police Service.

Information about this incident and charges are being released in the interests of public transparency.

The charged officer is afforded the right to a fair trial, the same as any member of the public, and they will be offered the appropriate supports from the Service during the court process.
