Calgary man facing dozens of charges in drug and firearm seizure

One man is facing 27 charges after police seized five firearms and a variety of drugs with a combined value of approximately $293,460.

At approximately 7:45 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 18, 2023, police responded to a call for shots fired in the 0 to 100 block of Woodview Terrace S.W. Upon arrival, police located a man in a stairwell who appeared to be suffering from a gunshot wound. The man was transported to hospital in life-threatening condition.

After clearing the residence to ensure no additional suspects or victims were inside, police observed multiple guns and a loaded magazine.

The next day, on Sunday, Nov. 19, 2023, police executed a search warrant at the residence and seized five firearms, two full sets of body armour, a half set of body armour, ammunition and the following drugs:

·       Six kilograms of fentanyl valued at approximately $208,652

·       1.2 kilograms of methamphetamine valued at approximately $36,382

·       837 grams of cocaine valued at approximately $40,393

·       1,607 pills of Xanax valued at approximately $8,035

·       Approximately seven kilograms of an unknown substance

As a result, Omar El GAD, 27, has been charged with five counts each of possession of a firearm contrary to order, possession of an unauthorized firearm, possession of a restricted or prohibited firearm and careless use of a firearm. He is also charged with four counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking and three counts of possession of body armour without a permit.

GAD is scheduled to next appear in court today, Monday, Dec. 4, 2023.

There are currently no suspects in custody.
