Calgary man charged in October 2022 hit-and-run

We have charged a Calgary man in relation to a hit-and-run collision in the northwest community of Montgomery in October 2022 that caused serious injuries to a teenage pedestrian.

It is believed that on Monday, Oct. 17, 2022, at approximately 7:05 p.m., a 17-year-old boy was crossing 16 Avenue N.W., at the intersection of 46 Street N.W., with the crosswalk signal activated. While he was crossing, it is believed he was struck by a white SUV, which subsequently fled the scene.

The pedestrian was transported to hospital with serious injuries. He has since been released and continues to recover from the collision.

Police located and seized the vehicle one week later.

After an extensive investigation, we have charged Richard BLANCHET, 40, of Calgary with one count of failure to stop at the scene of an accident causing bodily harm. BLANCHET is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday, April 5, 2023.
