Calgary Fire Responds to Two Housefires
On September 1st, 2025 at 5:40 PM, the Calgary Fire Department (CFD) responded to multiple 911 calls for a house on fire in the northeast community of Taradale. On arrival at the 1100 block of Taradale Drive, fire crews were met with a 2-story detached single family dwelling that was exhausting large volumes of smoke and flame from the rear of the home and spreading to the roof area. Firefighters established a water supply from a nearby hydrant and deployed multiple hose lines to initially fight the fire from the outside while crews simultaneously evacuated adjacent homes. The CFD set up a ladder/tower truck to utilize large caliber water streams on the roof area.
The firefighting efforts quickly brought the fire under control and allowed firefighters to enter the home to complete a search for occupants. Fire crews were able to determine that all occupants were safely evacuated and accounted for. The source home underwent heavy fire damage, but damage was held to the source house. One male adult occupant suffered minor burns and was assessed, treated and transported by EMS.
Calgary Police quickly assisted efforts but rerouting traffic and establishing a working perimeter for crews. The citizens in the area were helpful and cooperative in allowing crews room to work. Enmax and ATCO were onscene assisting with utilities.
While crews were operating in Taradale, a second house fire was reported in the southeast community of New Brighton. At approximately 6:30PM the CFD was called to the 100 block of New Brighton Lane for reports of a house fire. On arrival, fire crews were met by evacuating occupants and a two-story single-family home with heavy smoke and fire pushing from a second-floor window. Crews began controlling the fire from outside with hose lines and then moved to an interior attack. All 5 occupants were able to self-evacuate. Firefighters brought the fire under control and were able to search the home for occupants to confirm all had escaped. Damage from the fire was concentrated on the second floor and held to the address of origin.
Fire crews will be on scene through the night working with investigators to determine the cause of each fire.
