Calgary Fire Responds to Two Alarm Fire in New Brighton
On August 27th, 2025, at approximately 4:15PM the Calgary Fire Department responded to multiple 911 calls to the southeast community of New Brighton. On arrival at the 100 block of New Brighton Point, fire crews found one unit of an 8-unit townhome engulfed in flames on the outside, spreading to the roof and attic area. The first on scene crews immediately struck a second alarm to ensure sufficient resources were available to fight the progressing fire in the multi-story, multifamily occupancy.
Crews deployed multiple hose lines from the exterior to prevent spread of fire and simultaneously deployed crews interior to both fight the spreading fire and to search for occupants. Firefighters were able to ensure evacuation of all residents as well as those residents in adjacent units. Firefighters were able to locate and successfully rescue one dog from within the affected structure. The fire was difficult to bring under control due to the size of the fire and the proximity to other buildings. Once under control, crews opened the inside walls and attic to ensure the fire was out.
Calgary Police were on scene controlling perimeter and ensuring the safe evacuation of residents. AHS EMS crews were on scene to assess occupants and responders. One person was assessed for minor smoke inhalation but not transported. ATCO and Enmax were both on scene assisting with utilities control.
Fire crews will be on the site through the night assisting investigation and scene safety. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Cooperation from residents was greatly appreciated by responders in the area in dealing with the limited access.
