Calgary Fire Department Responds to Two Alarm Residential Fire in Taradale NE

Fire crews respond to two alarm fire in Taradale

Just after 5:00 pm the Calgary Fire Department (CFD) responded to reports of a structure fire in a single family residence in the 200 block of Taravista Dr NE.

Upon arrival crews found a single family dwelling fully involved in flames and quickly spreading to a neighboring home. A second alarm was called as firefighters quickly attacked the fire and worked at preventing the spread to other exposed homes. Elevated hose lines were also used to help control the fire which was made more difficult by the wind. Fire crews worked hard in the heat to fight the fire and carry out search and rescue duties.

All family members safely evacuated from their homes prior to the arrival of CFD. In total, 21 residents are displaced from their homes. Calgary Police Services (CPS) were on scene quickly and did great work in providing both traffic and crowd control and assisting evacuation work along the block. Alberta Health Services (AHS) were on scene but no injuries to citizens or emergency workers were reported as a result of the fire.

Calgary Emergency Management Agency (CEMA) were contacted to assist the displaced residents, and Calgary Transit Services (CTS) were also utilized in providing a bus to help keep residents safe and out of the heat.

Three homes were severely damaged by the fire and are uninhabitable. Enmax and Atco are on scene to control the flow of electricity and natural gas. Calgary Fire Investigator is also on scene working to determine the origin and cause of the fire. Crews will remain on scene throughout the night on fire watch.
