Calgary Fire Department responds to fire in NW community of Briar Hill

At approximately 8:20 p.m. tonight Calgary fire crews were called to a fire at a single family home in the 2000 block of 9 Avenue N.W. Smoke and fire were present when firefighters arrived on the scene. Firefighters initially directed water streams through a broken window onto the fire at the front corner of the home. Fire crews then made entry to the structure through a side door. When they entered the home one patient was found inside the front door and removed from the home where crews began CPR immediately. The patient was then transferred to Alberta Health Services for continued care and taken to an area hospital. One other resident of the home was not present at the time of the incident. No other injuries were reported.

Calgary Police Service assisted with area traffic control, while Enmax and Atco were also present to assist with scene safety. Fire crews are still on the scene conducting overhaul and salvage operations. The fire investigator is also on seen but no cause has been determined at this time. The home will not be inhabitable tonight.
