Calgary Fire Department Responds to Fatal Mobile Home Fire
1 person found inside deceased
At around 4:30am fire crews responded to a fire in the 2000 block of 86 AV SE. A security guard from the neighbouring building reported seeing fire in the adjacent property. On arrival fire crews saw visible flames and smoke coming out of the windows of a mobile home. Crews deployed a hose line to begin fire attack from the exterior while a second engine made a hydrant and connected it to the first engine.
Fire crews then proceed with an interior fire attack and search for occupants. During the search, crews found one person obviously deceased. Crews completed the search of the home, and no other occupants were found. The fire was contained to the mobile home where it originated, and no other structure have been impacted. CFD Fire Investigators and CPS Arson Investigator attended the scene. CPS Arson Investigators are automatically called to attend any fire fatalities. The Medical Examiner's office was contacted and attended the scene. Additional CPS units supported securing the scene perimeter and with traffic management. ATCO and Enmax attended and shut off utilities. Emergency Health Services attended and released when it was confirmed that no medical support was required. A fire crew remains on scene to watch for hot spots and any signs of the spread of fire while investigators continue the investigation.
The Calgary Police Service has confirmed that currently there is no evidence to connect this fire with the former Ogden Legion building fire, which is approximately one kilometer away.
