Calgary Fire Department Responds to Multiple House Fires

Shortly after 5pm on Thursday, July 16, 2020, the Calgary Fire Department (CFD) responded to reports of a house fire in the 2000 block of Morley Tr. NW. Arriving crews were met with heavy smoke coming from the main level of a single story residence. All occupants of the home were able to self evacuate prior to CFD's arrival. Calgary Fire Department crews were able to contain the fire to the room of origin with an aggressive interior fire attack. AHS crews assessed and released all occupants and there were no reported injuries to civilians or fire crews.

Just after 8pm the Calgary Fire Department responded to reports of a house fire in the 100 block of Maitland Dr. NE. Fire crews were met with heavy smoke from the basement of the residence on arrival. One adult male was assessed by AHS crews and released at the scene. Because of the quick actions by the initial arriving crews the fire was contained to the basement of the home.

Calgary Fire Department crews, including a Fire Investigator, remain at both scenes to determine the cause and origin of these fires and to ensure that there is no fire extension. The Calgary Police Service and AHS crews attended both scene to provide assistance.

The Calgary Fire Department reminds all citizens that smoke and CO alarms help to save lives and would like to see them installed, maintained and tested regularly in all homes.
