Calgary Fire Department Responds to a House Fire in Glendale

At approximately 11pm this evening Calgary Fire Department crews were alerted by neighbors to a house fire on Kelwood Place SW.

First arriving crews were met with heavy smoke and flames coming from the rear of a single story residence. Fire crews began an aggressive interior fire attack and in the course of searching the residence an adult male was located.

Fire crews removed the victim and began resuscitation efforts before transferring care to waiting AHS crews. The patient was transported by AHS to hospital but unfortunately succumbed to fire related injuries.

Fire crews were called out of the structure due to a main floor collapse and the remainder of fire suppression activities were done from the exterior of the residence.

CPS and AHS remain on scene to assist. Enmax and ATCO were called to control the flow of utilities to the residence.

Calgary Fire Department crews including a Fire Investigator will remain on scene throughout the night to ensure there is no fire extension and to determine the cause and origin of the fire.

The Calgary Fire Department reminds citizens that smoke and CO alarms help save lives and would like to see them installed, maintained and regularly tested in all homes.
