Calgary Fire Department respond to fatality fire in the SE.

At approximately 8:30 this morning Calgary 911 received a call from a citizen with reports  of smoke coming from a structure in the  6500 block of 17 Ave SE.

The Calgary Fire Department (CFD) was dispatched to the address, on arrival they found a single mobile home with smoke visible. Fire crews gained entry and quickly brought the fire under control and started a primary survey. During this survey firefighters discovered a single female resident deceased and no other occupants. A cat and a dog were also found inside the home, the cat had succumbed to the extent of the fire while the dog was rescued and is being cared for by a neighbor.

Fire crews actively worked on salvage and overhaul operations to ensure no further property damage was done and to protect surrounding homes. The source home of the fire was severely damaged and will likely be inhabitable.

Alberta Health Services (AHS) were on scene but no injuries were reported from neighboring residents or responders. Calgary Police Services (CPS) are on scene with Arson Investigation along with the CFD fire investigator working to determine the origin and cause of the fire. CFD fire crews will remain on scene throughout the day to ensure scene safety.
