Calgary Fire Department Crews Respond to Tanker Rollover and Fuel Spill on 52nd St SE

At approximately 5 pm this afternoon, Calgary Fire Department (CFD) crews responded to an incident involving a semi-truck/trailer roll over on 52nd St SE and 110 Ave SE.

No other vehicles were involved and no injuries were reported.

The semi was carrying diesel and gasoline in separate compartments. Ruptures to at least two compartments resulted in a substantial amount of fuel leaking onto the roadway and into the storm sewer. At this time, mitigation and containment efforts are believed to have prevented the product from reaching the Bow River.

CFD crews are assisting Water Services and external agencies in the transferring of fuel into vacuum trucks. Alberta Environment have been notified and are aware of the incident.

CPS have closed the following roads. This closure will be in effect until all hazards have been removed at the incident site:

·         Northbound and southbound 52nd St SE between 106 Ave SE and 114 Ave SE.

·         Eastbound and westbound 110 Ave SE at 50th St SE.

·         Eastbound and westbound Dufferin Blvd SE at 54th St SE.

Crews will remain on scene into the evening hours until the incident scene is returned to normal operations.
