Calgary Fire Crews Respond To Two Alarm Fire in New Brighton
At 8:41 pm this evening, Calgary Fire Department (CFD) crews responded to reports of a structure fire in the 1100 block of New Brighton Park SE. A second alarm was called to ensure adequate resources on scene.
Upon arrival, fire crews faced significant smoke and flames from three 2-story single family residential homes. Firefighters quickly initiated an aggressive exterior attack combined with an interior offensive attack and searches on all affected structures. Two water towers were also set up to assist in fire attack. Three homes suffered extensive damage due to fire extension, smoke, and water with two additional adjacent homes suffering moderate damage.
Twenty-one residents self-evacuated prior to CFD’s arrival. Two dogs were accounted for and are in the care of their family. One person was assessed by AHS as a precaution for possible smoke inhalation but was not transported. These residents will be displaced from their homes for an undetermined amount of time.
CPS assisted and provided traffic and crowd control at scene. Atco and Enmax were dispatched and ensured there were no hazards relating to services.
Fire crews including a fire investigator will remain on scene to ensure there is no fire extension and to confirm extinguishment.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
