Calgary Fire Crews Respond to House Fire in Braeside

At approximately 7:50 this evening, the Calgary Fire Department (CFD) responded to reports of a house fire in the 1700 block of 111 Avenue SW. Fire crews arrived on scene to find smoke pushing from under the roof structure of a single family home. Firefighters quickly initiated an aggressive interior attack knocking down most of the flames. An aerial ladder truck was utilized to provide a water tower to extinguish the remaining flames in the attack area containing the fire to house of origin. Fire crews then completed primary and secondary searches to confirm no one was home at the time. Interior tactical team did remove a dog which was safely united with the home owners upon their arrival to the scene.

Calgary fire fighters were assisted on scene by Atco and Enmax to shut down gas and power to the impacted structure. Calgary Police Service provided traffic control which assisted with the fire operations. Firefighters remain on scene extinguishing hot spots while conducting salvage and overhaul operations. Fire investigators remain at the incident and the cause of fire has not yet been determined. The Calgary Fire Department will maintain fire watch throughout the night.

Firefighters reported there were activated functioning smoke alarms at this incident. The Calgary Fire Department would like to remind citizens that functioning smoke alarms can help save lives.
