Calgary Fire Crews Respond to 2 Alarm House Fire in Woodbine

At approximately 9:00 pm tonight, Calgary Fire Department (CFD) crews responded to reports of a house fire in the 100 block of Woodfield Close SW.

Upon arrival, fire crews faced significant smoke and flames from the rear side of a two-story single-family home. Firefighters quickly extended hand lines to control the fire as well as to protect neighboring exposures from the exterior. An aerial ladder truck was also set up to assist in defensive operations by providing an elevated master stream.

A second alarm was called in order to ensure adequate resources were available.

Two residents self-evacuated from the source home before CFD’s arrival. Atco and Enmax were dispatched and ensured there were no hazards relating to services. AHS attended the incident but no injuries to civilians or emergency workers were reported. CPS attended and assisted with traffic control. One cat is reported missing at this time.

The source home was significantly damaged, and the two occupants will require alternate accommodations. Exterior exposure damage from radiant heat to both neighboring homes is minor, and did not extend to the interior of those homes.

Fire is out at this time and crews including a fire investigator will remain on scene to ensure there is no fire extension and to monitor any hot spots.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
