Calgary Fire Crews Respond to 2 Alarm Fire in Falconridge

At approximately 3:30 pm today, Calgary Fire Department (CFD) crews responded to reports of a house fire in the 100 block of Falshire Place NE.

Upon arrival fire crews faced significant flames and smoke from a single-family home. Firefighters quickly extended handlines, protecting neighboring homes and attacking the fire from the exterior before gaining access to the interior to continue with their fire attack and initiate search efforts. An aerial ladder truck was staged on standby to provide an elevated master stream if needed.

A second alarm was called to ensure adequate resources were available.

Five residents from the source home self-evacuated before CFD’s arrival. Atco and Enmax were dispatched and ensured there were no hazards relating to services. AHS attended the incident and assessed, treated, and transported one adult female resident and one 18-month-old female resident for minor smoke inhalation.

Both the source home which was significantly damaged and one neighboring home which suffered moderate damage will not be habitable.

Fire is out at this time and crews including a fire investigator will remain on scene to ensure there is no fire extension and to monitor any hot spots.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
