Calgary fire crews quickly extinguish Mahogany townhouse fire

At approximately 1:45 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 16, Calgary 9-1-1 received multiple reports of a fire at the rear of a townhome on Mahogany Boulevard S.E. One person was home at the time and safely evacuated before fire crews arrived.

Upon arrival, firefighters encountered flames spreading to the upper floor of the home and into the soffits. Crews quickly extinguished the fire and conducted thorough searches of both townhomes for any additional occupants. No one else was found inside.

Firefighters successfully prevented the fire from spreading to the adjoining townhome. However, the home where the fire originated sustained significant smoke damage as well as fire damage to the exterior rear of the structure. Utilities, including electricity and natural gas, have been disconnected to that portion of the building for safety.

Calgary Police redirected traffic in the area to ensure fire crews had unobstructed access for laying hose lines and firefighting operations.
