Calgary fire crews get quick knockdown of Palliser townhouse fire

Just before 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 2, Calgary fire crews responded to a garage fire on Oakmoor Drive S.W.  The fire captain quickly upgraded the response to a second alarm for additional resources due to the dark smoke visible from a distance  while responding as well as an awareness that the involved address was a multi family  townhouse building.  On arrival, firefighters encountered a fully involved garage fire with a vehicle inside.  Fire crews quickly contained the fire to the garage of origin and prevented spread of fire to the attached residential portion of the building. The townhome where the fire started did sustain some smoke damage and neighbouring units had some smoke enter as well. 

One person suffered some slight smoke inhalation but was not transported.  No other injuries were reported as a result if this fire. Firefighters confirmed that the home did have working smoke alarms which are very important as  early warning devices to alert residents to a fire. 

Fire crews ensured that the fire had not spread through the garage's attic space to other units and ventilated smoke from all four units.  The  attached townhomes were then checked for carbon monoxide levels before anybody was allowed back in.
